I am a full-time PhD candidate at the School of Physics. I completed my undergraduate degrees in mathematics and physics at 亚美棋牌. I work in condensed matter theory, focussing mostly on linear and nonlinear electromagnetic response of electrons in crystals.

笔谤辞箩别肠迟:听Electromagnetic response of topological insulators

Supervised by:听Prof. Dimitrie Culcer

Project description:听Electrically induced spin torques at topological insulator (TI)/ferromagnet (FM) interfaces have been the subject of a considerable amount of research in the last decade, with the goal of achieving full electrical control of magnetic degrees of freedom. The most important question in this field concerns the relative contributions of the TI bulk and surface state electrons to the spin torque, a matter that remains incompletely understood. Whereas the surface state contribution has been extensively studied, the contribution due to the bulk states has received comparatively little attention. In my work I study electrically induced spin polarisations, spin currents and orbital angular momentum currents in the bulk states in order to determine their relative sizes and experimental signatures.
