Aman Mohamed, Sonia Ram, and Nathan Roberts have been recognised for their skills at the Willem C Vis International Commercial Arbitration Moot recently held in Vienna, Austria.
The annual Vis Moot is the world’s largest private international law mooting competition. The 2025 hypothetical case concerned a contractual dispute between an energy company and a state-owned enterprise over constructing a hydrogen plant.
At the conclusion of the competition’s General Rounds, aggregate scores ranked first out of nearly 400 teams. Despite being narrowly defeated in the Elimination Rounds by Germany’s Bucerius Law School, earned an unprecedented number of individual and team accolades for written and oral advocacy.

Team coach said it was extraordinary for one university to dominate multiple facets of the competition, let alone one with a team of only three competitors. She expressed gratitude for the late inclusion of volunteer researcher Tucker Greer.
“I am incredibly proud of what our small but mighty team has been able to achieve after six months of intense preparations. They consistently produced powerful written and oral advocacy and earned the respect of legal professionals and peers alike,” Ashna said.
Sonia and Aman outperformed more than 2,500 students to win first place and second runner-up, respectively, in the Martin Domke Award for Best Individual Oralist. Nathan received an honourable mention for the same award, placing within the top 3% of competitors.
The team won the Werner Melis Award for the Best Memorandum for Respondent and received honourable mentions for the Eric Bergsten Award for Team Oral Advocacy and the Pieter Sanders Award for the Best Memorandum for Claimant, which notably placed them as the only Asia-Pacific representatives in the top 5% of memorandum competitors.
