The smallest of The Kensington Colleges, Goldstein offers a more intimate community where everyone knows each other. Its supportive and focused environment helps foster a culture of academic excellence.

Overview

Opened in 1964, Goldstein College was named after philanthropist Philip Goldstein, who made a substantial donation to the construction of both the college and the Goldstein Dining Hall. The original buildings (North and South Hall), separated by a courtyard, housed 74 residents. In 2014, the newly developed Kensington Colleges opened, and Goldstein became home to 150 residents.聽

The college regularly involves itself in community-based charitable programs such as Shave for a Cure, Earth Hour, and Headspace. On the sporting field, Goldstein is extremely well represented and, in the past, has housed Olympians as well as national and state representatives in a variety of sports. The intercollege sports competition is fiercely contested, and Goldstein swarms to the sidelines to cheer their fellow residents on.

Student support

You鈥檒l be supported by an on-site team consisting of the Dean, Deputy Dean, and Resident Mentors (or RMs). Each floor has an RM tasked with offering academic guidance, pastoral support and ensuring the well-being of all residents.

We run peer-led study groups to help students adjust to the academic requirements of university study. We also host study sessions and uplifting wellbeing programs guided by our Wellbeing Officer. This helps everyone smoothly transition from high school to university!

As Sports Director for Goldstein College, I鈥檝e loved seeing how sport brings people together. It鈥檚 a real community鈥攅veryone looks out for each other. My favourite spot in college is the rooftop terrace. It has the best sunset views and is the perfect place to unwind, study, or catch up with friends.

College communities are so important鈥攖hey鈥檙e your support system away from home. We're constantly helping each other. It鈥檚 not just about having a room, it鈥檚 about having a network of people who really understand what you鈥檙e going through.

In college, you get so much more than a room鈥攜ou get a family. I went to boarding school, so I was somewhat prepared, but college is just better: more freedom, incredible people, and a real sense of belonging. I鈥檝e made friends from all over the world, and now Sydney truly feels like home.

The facilities in college are great! We鈥檝e got a big common room with couches, a pool table, ping pong, a music room and even a big shared kitchen. Each floor also has a smaller common room where people hang out and watch movies. Everyone gets their own room with a desk, a big closet, and a king single bed. I鈥檝e made mine feel really personal, and it鈥檚 become a space I love.

Jennifer McLoughlin聽| Dean of Goldstein College

Hi I鈥檓 Jen McLoughlin I have worked at 亚美棋牌 in a variety of roles since 1993. My key focus has always been Student Services and within Faculties as a support and adviser to students. I am a lifelong learner and have a BA Communications from UTS, a Masters of Asian studies from 亚美棋牌 and a Graduate Diploma in Primary Education from Charles Darwin University. Through these studies I have developed an appreciation of the challenges of balancing life and study and the support we need at times to achieve our goals.

I am an incredibly positive person with a deep understanding and empathy for the student experience. I am committed to motivating you and providing you with the right environment to enjoy university life and complete your degrees and beyond.

Alex Jenkins聽|聽Deputy Dean of Goldstein College

Hi I'm Alex. I completed my Bachelor of Medical Science and Graduate Diploma of Psychology at 亚美棋牌. I came to Sydney from the country, where I wasn't always exposed to the range of career paths out there. Living on campus changed that鈥攊t opened my eyes to new perspectives, opportunities, and people from all over the world. It鈥檚 expanded my horizons, sparked curiosity and made me more open-minded. Being around like-minded, motivated people really rubs off on you.

Mentoring and supporting others really aligns with my passion for psychology. I had a lot of help from college staff early on, and becoming Deputy Dean felt like a meaningful way to give back. It鈥檚 a chance to build skills, advocate for new opportunities and support others in a positive and purposeful way.

Resident Mentors

Resident Mentors (RMs) are staff members of 亚美棋牌 who are typically in their final years of study or already hold a degree. RMs live with the students on their floors and provide daily academic and pastoral support. They aren鈥檛 teachers, but they鈥檙e a little like supportive older siblings with loads of experience to pass on and a willingness to help guide the residents.

House Committee

The House Committee is composed of student leaders elected annually by residents in various portfolios aimed at offering residents opportunities to be involved in extra-curricular activities. The House Committee includes an executive group of a president, secretary and treasurer and administers a budget each year across areas such as cultural, sport, social, charities and communications.
